    YANKEE El término Yankee o el peyorativo Yank se utilizan fuera de EE.UU. para referirse a los estadounidenses en general. Sin embargo, desde la guerra de Secesión, en el sur de Estados Unidos un Yankee es un habitante de un estado del norte, y a su vez, en el norte se considera un verdadero Yankee al oriundo de Nueva Inglaterra. El nombre procede de la canción Yankee Doodle, escrita inicialmente por un inglés para burlarse de los colonos americanos y adoptada después como himno patriótico por los soldados del general Washington durante la lucha por la independencia.
